Zombies suck in acts. They die constantly and have slow clear. Spectres basically dropped out of the meta. They die more often now at every level of investment but are just as annoying to resummon as before. SRS-Infernal Legion/Vaal Summon Skeletons are good for early bossing but die even more than zombies (by design) and scale poorly compared to meta options.

And those options are not for everyone. You can essentially pick two of of these three: a) endgame viable; b) plays like minion archetype; c) affordable. Golemancer is too expensive for most players, being essentially a cheaper aurastacker. It's not even necromancer usually, but elementalist for the instant resummon. VD/DD/Cremation is also a thing - but it feels more like a caster build than a minion build.
