When hunting for a house, I passed on a perfect house because it had a sunken living room. My wife has arthritis and I could see her tripping over the step all the time. I passed on a second not so perfect one because it was sunken 9 inches, too much for one step, too little for two. Both of us and the realtor tripped leaving the living room.
It's a big difference than a staircase, there you anticipate it, many times with a sunken roof you focus on the room and step up or down without looking and stumble or fall. It's such a small thing, but makes a big difference.
Who will hate it?
People in walkers
People in wheelchairs
People with arthritis
You about the 3rd time you trip and fall on your face
You when moving furniture in and out
You when you break a leg or end up with foot or leg issues.
You when you have to buy a second Roomba for it, or have to lug the vacuum up and down
You when it comes time to resell when prospective buyers keep mentioning how they 'love the house, but . . . .'
