Sunrise in Bagan - Myanmar has been our #1 place in 5mo traveling

Hello Travel!

My wife and I have been traveling around mostly in SE Asia now for 5 months. We haven't been huge fans of the area as a whole. So far we've been through parts of Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore, and Malaysia. We were last in Malaysia for Chinese New Year which was OK, but we didn't really like the country as a whole(we didn't get to the east coast which seems more appealing due to weather).

We decided to leave the subcontinent and continue our travels and booked a flight to Japan in early April to spend a few months there while we figure out our next locations. We needed something to fill in the gaps and figured some other parts of Thailand for some doctor and dentist visits as well as some island time. We also figured we needed to see Angkor Wat so plan a few days from Bangkok to there.

Myanmar was some place that we wanted to visit before the start of our trip, but after traveling the more developed countries we were kind of put off on it by some other travelers. Since we don't plan on really returning to this area, except maybe Indonesia we decided we really needed to give it a try and penciled in a week. So far we've been here about 11 days and plan on a few more.

Yangon is nothing special, Inle Lake was gorgeous, Bagan absolutely breathtaking, and Mawlamyine was OK for a day. We've spent the last 4 days based in Dawei doing day trips and it is a blast. I plan on posting a lot more information when we have our downtime in Bangkok between doctor visits. Internet is pretty terrible here and I managed to get this up in the hour or so that it is actually working in the last few days.

More to come soon - ask any questions about the area. The people are what really make this country, but so much is changing so fast, so it won't be the same in a year or two(just as it isn't the same now as it was a year or two ago).
