Superstition Is Killing Innocent Children

We are doing a similar thing in Uganda, where there is the idea spread by witchdoctors that sacrificing a child, most particularly an orphan, can bring one wealth. They have some particularly disturbing ideas mixing traditional religions with fundamental christianity. I'm involved with Bizoha Humanist Primary School in Uganda , which teaches the children and hopefully the community that superstitions and beliefs don't control the real world, and the importance of science and reason. I was thinking that maybe the organization I work with could contact this one and talk about starting a school or something. I see from her website that they just got in an extremely large sum of cash, and was hoping they plan to use it for education. They mentioned a clinic, which is also a good thing to have. Anyway, was just asking you in case you had some connection to this cause you posted. Her organization seems to have much more funding than we do, so my first thoughts of helping her promote her charity were put to bed when I read how much money she had raised. It was more around a sharing of ideas. But they appear very busy and I too am busy with Bizoha, so maybe I just trust that she's on the ground there and knows what's needed.

Anyway, thanks for posting. Food for thought, if nothing else. I may pass it along to somebody I work with and see if they want to make contact regarding sharing the school idea. We just started our school construction last spring, it opens its doors this coming Monday for the children! We have 84 needy children who will get free tuition, breakfast and clinic access. :) I also have set up a Scholastic Book Club for the school and got $2500 worth of books ordered through kind donations. I've gotten donations for 64 pair of shoes (because going barefoot actually leads to intestinal parasites that bore up into the sole of the foot). It should be really a wonderful school, with the Humanist values posted and taught. And sorry if this is all a repeat for you, because I do tend to post links here, probably to a tiresome degree. But, like you, once I know these things are happening I want to raise awareness and help where I can.

It would be very cool if we could get a school going in Nigeria with this woman as well.
