Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg dead at 87

The system was designed with the intention that there would only be small parties that would rotate out like the Whigs, Bull Moose, Union, and Democrat-Republicans did. It's only in the last 150 years that we've allowed the Democrats and Republicans to dig in like ticks.

With the current political landscape, the Republicans would rather you vote Democrat than Independent. Similarly, Democrats would rather you vote Republican instead of Independent. These 2 parties love a good old fashioned "us vs them" rhetoric and claiming they can't do X because of Y party detractors. They would hate to present a bill and it only get 23% of the votes because it's objectively a shit bill. They love party blindness where Democrats must vote for Democrat bills and Republicans for Republican bills. It's like professional wrestling, yeah there's some real stuff in there, but it's mostly posturing and hamming it up for the cameras.

'Vote Independent' has been smeared as "throwing your vote away" by both major parties for a century because they would rather continue this farce of a tug-of-war than make way for a party that would make actual change. They fear voters getting the option to vote for a bunch of candidate so they can pick the one that best fits their personal values. The parties would much rather shove a turd sandwich and a diarrhea sundae in front of voters and make them pick the "lessser of two evils" because they're both shit for the common person.
