Surveying Interest For Player Run Campaign

Alright, so this is definitely an encouraging response since it is only the first day, so I will try to give a little bit more information now to test the waters as it were, go ahead and give any suggestions you might have for changes or additions and we can get that sorted out before I move on into the full planning.

How I imagine it presently is that each battle will be fought between 4 players on each side, with each player playing as a thematic national deck with the period restrictions in place (almost exclusively pre-1983, with a few minor exceptions for balance purposes, or to rectify an error on Eugen’s end). Every battle will fit into the narrative of the campaign as a whole usually either by altering either the decks that will be available to both sides in the coming game, or by altering specific units that will be available to certain decks (eg. if Redfor was to win a specific battle, then Blufor will not have access to, for instance, their US airborne deck in the following battle, giving Redfor a better chance at achieving air superiority).

I am toying with the idea of giving both sides a “pool” of decks from which they can choose for each battle that would change (with new decks added or old ones removed) as the campaign progresses, or with the possibility of just giving a fixed 4 decks per side that will still change as a result of the outcome of specific battles, but which will not allow for player choice. There is also a strong possibility that at some point in the campaign there will be a red-on-red battle (eg. Polish rebellion vs Russian response) which will also affect the campaign as a whole. At present, I expect to play every game as a conquest game.

The way I have currently balanced the decks ensures that Blufor tends to have a definite technological/unit quality advantage, but Blue decks tend to be incomplete in terms of activation points, while Redfor tends to have an advantage in certain specific areas and without a doubt has a numerical advantage. The general idea being that most of the conquest matches will involve blue trying to hold on with the expectation of actually running out of their (superior) units, while red hopes to eat away at Blue before eventually overrunning them.

Presently, I plan to have the first battle include West German, US, UK, East German, and Soviet Forces, with the French, Canadians, Poles, and Czechs joining the fray in some form or another as the campaign progresses.

Please feel free to reply with any suggestions or comments.
