I follow chess more that most people (which probably isn't saying a lot) I think but I don't play in actual tournaments and don't know all the fide rules so what I know comes from here.
A wgm is closer to an IM in skill but they have these titles to encourage female involvement because it's been traditionally disproportionate.
She asked if you could get a "real" GM norm in an all female tournament to which he responded why would she want to be like a man? I think the obvious answer is its a higher title.
I also think it was a fair enough question, thinking about the question because I think if you had put a gun to my head and asked I'd have guessed a GM norm would have had to been in an open tournament. Would have been a great chance to hear "of course they can, if there strength is the same what does gender matter" and instead I learned that through this.
