Sushi Burger, X-Post from /r/food

Japanese here. Also worked at a high end sushi restaurant.

Why is this an abomination?

Because that looks like beni shouga. That's a major wtf. I can do ikura sprinkled haphazardly. But what the actual fuck is this. Because everything would fall apart when you take a bite. Because the soggy nori in the middle it not only awkward, but also just helps to make the entire thing fall to pieces. Because the avocado will smother the fish. Because sushi really isn't meant to be a burger because the rice to fish ratio is all wrong. Because this is an obvious attempt at cutting down costs by loading it with fillers and tons of rice.

The shape of sushi is actually very important. Ask any sushi chef. Sushi should not and can not fall apart. If they made the buns out of yaki-onigiri then it at least shows that someone thought it through. (Then it's also at least obviously fusion.)

I'm okay with fusion rolls with unconventional sauces. There are some flavors that can only be enjoyed in fusion rolls, and that's become a sort of a separate art in recent years. But this is pretty abominable if you're gonna call it "sushi".
