Suspended from school for 2 days because I pulled a chair out from under a friend and she hit her head (She is okay now) x-post from /r/advice

Honestly, just roll with. Don't talk, just listen to what they have to say. Sometimes it's okay to tell people exactly what they want to hear as long as it's not complete baloney and you're going to follow through.

Plan something fun a few days after all the promotion stuff if you are blocked from going and then enjoy the summer. Sometimes even when it isn't your fault or intentional it's still your problem to shoulder, but this really is a tiny one in the long run. You can say that you understand that even though it was unintentional you accept it was an error in behavior that you will modify going forward. You've learned a lesson and would appreciate being able to participate in the festivities because you believe your behavior over your school career is indicative of who you are and who you'll be in high school. You can promise to do some community service especially if you know whomever you're talking to is big on that. If you meet in someone's office look around at pictures or plaques on the walls. Get a sense of who this person is and what they like. If you see a picture of them with anyone elderly then you can ask if you could volunteer at a senior center over the summer as a thank you for them letting you participate in the festivities.

Be polite, listen intently and be proactive in making this the least bothersome as possible. Over the next few days it's not going to go away as if it didn't happen, but since it's not going to ruin your life don't let it ruin your summer and everything after. Be strong for a couple days, do some volunteer work over the summer even if that doesn't win them over tomorrow and start high school in the fall knowing none of this matters anymore.
