Sweden finds the largest rare earth deposit in Europe. It could help cut dependence on China

What we do for oil is significantly better for the environment than mining. Towns have been destroyed, water supplies completely contaminated with heavy metals due to acid mine discharge. Wildlife dead.

The city I live in has plenty of fracking operations. I don't have to deal with my water supply being poisoned or wildlife dying.

Once you're done fracking, and it gets decommissioned, it just sits there with little negative impact to the environment. Mines on the other hand, constantly have to be monitored, even after being decomissioned, because acid mine discharge is a huge risk.

These are the reasons why mining is dead in America, whereas oil is still a strong industry.

I never said oil extraction was a woke clean process, my point is that mining without completely destroying everything worse than the BP oil spill, is extremely expensive and difficult to prevent. With oil, we know how to do it safely without much additional cost. I guarantee you there's hidden fracking operations where you live and have no idea they exist.
