Swimming for weightloss - any encouraging stories?

If you're busy, swimming is hard to schedule. I was swimming at 5am for a while, but I just... have a difficult time getting up -> driving -> showering -> swimming for 30 minutes -> showering again -> drying off -> driving home -> going to work.

ymmv, but I found running more sustainable for my life right now.

That said, aside from the timing issue, I fucking love swimming. I used to swim competitively. I usually do 6-10 laps of freestyle, 10ish laps of leg drills, 10ish laps of breaststroke, and like 5 laps of butterfly (because I'm weak).

It ruins my hair, but I'd do it again if I could do it after work somehow. I need to find a swimming gym that is reasonably priced. My options were either "crowded ymca but 25 bucks a month" or "deadly empty, but 350 a month".
