Tablet antihistamine are a waste of money

Hi, pharmacy assistant here with severe allergies;

Piriton/ chloramphetamine maleate is going to be one of the strongest you can get over the counter. Don’t take the syrup. It’s for kids. In order to get a full dose you’ll be spending £5 a portion.

the sugar is soothing your throat but it’s doing the same amount of actual work on your histamine response as the tablets.

All chloramphetamine maleate is drowsy it’s a hazard you’re going to have to deal with, best way I deal with it is to take it before bed, let it knock me out and top it up through the day with my fexofenadine. You can also get chloramphetamine maleate non brands at pharmacies for about £2

Speaking of fexofenadine, they’re working on bringing it over the counter in small amounts but some people just don’t react well to over the counter antihistamines, sometimes fexofenadine does nothing, sometimes it’s the solution you’ve been looking for.

I take 3x 180mg tablets a day, to keep on top of allergies, this with the piriton in an evening when I’m really bad is my only solution. you can get it prescribed if your allergies are this bad, I get a prepaid prescription to keep costs down.
