The Tablet: "To Cut or Not To Cut, Finding Alternatives to Circumcision". Major Jewish websites, magazines and newspapers laying the groundwork to stop circumcision, as they can see the writing on the wall.

I'm cut and honestly have nothing more than what I consider a flexible opinion on the matter. I truly believe circumcision on a large scale will lessen the transfer of std's. At the same time I also believe that cleanliness and condom use will have the same effect. It just makes sense after all. My mind then shifts to the many times I've been in a public restroom and witnessed men leaving without washing their hands. This is basic hygiene 101. If you're not cleaning your hands after going to the bathroom then how thorough are your efforts in the rest of your hygiene? I had a comprehensive sexual education program at my school growing up. Many of my classmates that heard the same speech are against condom use (because it doesn't feel as good) and I find it mind boggling. It's one thing to engage in unprotected sex in a long term serious relationship yet something entirely different to raw dog the girl you just met at the bar. Despite a common thorough education on condom use and STD's they are thoroughly disinterested in the practice. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. In the end I feel circumcision is healthier for society as a whole at the sacrifice of the individual. I don't have the right answer but I know for certain that education in hygiene does not necessarily lead to it's practice. At least 40% of my friends refuse to wear condoms. Some have gotten vasectomies and others have required their girlfriends to stay on the pill. It boils down to a simple question in my mind. Which is more important? The individual or the whole? Like I said I don't have the answer. Both arguments have merit imho because what I've observed contradicts with what I've learned.
