Tailgater didn't know who he is messing with.

I drive a fire service vehicle for work but never use the lights and sirens since I'm in a non-safety position and that would be illegal as hell. From the rear it just looks like a red truck, but if I'm behind you all the lights, sirens and insignia are visible.

Every single day I let people aggressively tailgating me on mountain roads pass by pulling off to the shoulder. The second I get back on the road they notice I'm in a fire vehicle and immediately slow to a crawl. Kind of drives me nuts.

I also watch at least a half dozen people every day scramble to put their seatbelt on when they see me, which is weird since fire personel aren't the people handing out seatbelt tickets. The one thing I've noticed people do not give a shit about is using their cellphones and seeing me at an intersection. Even had a nice young lady flip me off when I yelled at her to get off her phone after she almost killed one of my guys blowing through an area we had active traffic control.

I work with felons and inmates clearing brush and swinging around chainsaws, but that work is 100 times more safe than when I'm doing roadside work with a contractor. Drivers are the most dangerous part of my job, not the falling trees and rattle snakes. I just wish people were more safe on the road and slowed down.
