Take-Two CEO on Evolve’s DLC: “controversy, generally speaking, is a good thing”

I kind of agree. Part of it though I think is within the community itself.

Take myself. I am basically the exact opposite of, say, Jim Sterling (or any of the critical reviewers although angry joe and biscuit aren't always this way). If I buy a game, I play it to have fun. I play it to enjoy myself and relax. However, many people (Jim and a majority of the people here) don't. They play a game simply for the sake of playing a game, and then have to take a hard nosed stance on it. These people then go out and crusade against a game for xyz reasons. "You shouldn't buy evolve because it's killing the gaming market and promoting anti consumer practices. You shouldn't play CoD because you promote stagnation and are retarded. You should play xyz because xyz".

Someone like me, I often will buy a game, play it and enjoy it greatly, then come here and be told the game sucks and I'm a horrible person and an idiot for playing it and liking it. Eventually, and although I try to keep a level head, I can overreact and stoop down to that level too. You can only be ridiculed so much for doing something you enjoy, and I think a lot of people are at that point here. People played the evolve alpha and beta, had a blast, and can't wait to buy the game. So they come here to discuss it and be excited and have fun... Only to be told they are mindless sheep being controlled by greedy corporations or some horseshit

And both sides are just getting more and more polarized. It's true, as you say, that people have gotten sick of shady gaming practices for years, but it always used to be just don't buy the game and make it known to that company that you don't like the practices and you're not giving them money for it. But now, it's taken the next step of personal attacks on people that do like those games or don't mind paying a few extra dollars. It's disgusting really, and it goes to show that when big media talk about us "gamers" as a whole, and say things like immature and entitled, they aren't really that far off in many ways.
