The largest web spiders in the world officially are some species of South African orb weaver spider they are about 15 centimetres.( six inches in old currency ) in diameter.

However (many years ago )I have seen much larger web spiders here in Western Australia. The spiders I saw were Western Coastal orb weavers. They have brilliant aquatic blue flurorescent legs not unlike those of a blue manner crab. The spiders are white grey furry bodied blue legs black mandibles and are strikingly beautiful and frightening.Oddly, although there yoused to be,I can not find reference to these spiders anywhere on the Internet nor do I have a photo.I have a quiet little obsession with finding another one of these spiders and a few conspiracy theories as to why they have disappeared as though they never existed. One theory is that residential developers developing the north west coastal plain have eradicated any record of them as there habitat area is limited to only that area and they are near extinct.Another theory I have is that an Alien species that is arachnid like has taken them in order to modify their DNA and arm them with web producing laser guns in order to take back the planet in an ecologically sustainable way.The third theory I have is that in a ecological hot spot with thousands of unique species the Western Coastal weaver is quite rare and little known with little reference on the Internet and I have not been typing in the key words I used to find them previously .

Anyway a picture of a Western Coastal orb weaver spider either genetically modified or not genetically modified.
