I've worked plenty of jobs and had plenty of life experiences to know both sides.
There are lots of kinds of assholes. Nobody, I don't care who you are, can take a beating over and over, you lose all confidence. But that is stupid to think PPD was that kind of captain. He is still friends with his old team mates. Again do you think Zai goes first to some dictator? If you think PPD is some narccicist elitist you clearly only pay attention to the front page of reddit. I have followed EG extremely closely, as close as a fan could get, since TI4. I might have missed a single game over that time frame to put it in perspective. I watch all their streams, little interviews, anything.
I see Peter as one with rough edges, but I think he wants to succeed. He clearly states in the interview that he is aware of emotions and environment. He doesn't strike me as an elitist with no empathy of others around him. PPD can definitely strike a chord of some people. But just because people get upset doesn't mean it isn't true, and if somebody says something to you or about you, and you aren't able to critically think about what they said, that starts to become your own flaw and not theirs. A team is about sharing a workload, mentally, emotionally, etc etc etc. I don't know the team dynamic, but Peter and Sumail worked fine when they won TI, you could see in the way sumail played. He wanted to win. Now everybody repeats the same old shit. For 3 years people have described E.G. as some sort of comeback king, and they didn't do that once this year. If they lost a series, they were done there or very shortly after.
The asshole he's often painted as is one with no self awareness. Or perhaps in this thread, one who pushes too hard. There are a lot of different competitors too. Some don't match together very well. PPD is clearly one who feels the need to be on top and in touch with a grind. Sumail may have been that at once, maybe he still is, but for the past year he clearly wasn't, the evidence is there.
I don't really think any one person exiled Peter, so I think the attack on Sumail is unwarranted, the selling point of the past rendition of EG was very very very clear, were all friends and were all equal. That doesn't work, you can't just be a group of friends because then there's nobody holding anybody accountable. People get lazy in that environment. You need to be extremely self motivated if that friends thing is going to work. Again, plenty of evidence Sumail wasn't. There's a reason people tell you not to get into business with your friends or live with them too closely. It takes a very special relationship to mesh business and personal. To me it sounds like PPD was the only one who realized it, because this group is still just a group of friends who ride off previous accomplishments and accolades. They didn't win shit this year. And they didn't perform any comebacks or show very much. I was and am a pretty serious EG fan, and it sucked ass to watch all year because it was clear they could do better.
To just label PPD an asshole might be fitting. But not in this scenario.
