It is not 30% no one in this thread even knows what they're talking about. I've already done my taxes with Uber for several years and for several companies before Uber.

Some places like California for instance have a $5,000 self employment tax that you have to pay in addition to income tax.

My state doesn't have state tax or a self employment tax so I just pay based on the brackets it's basically 10% up to $10,000 than anything over $10,000 it's 12% up to like $30,000 and then anything over that it's 15%.

You must calculate all of your deductions and subtract them from your income and then that number is what you used to calculate your tax brackets.

You can use TurboTax or H&R Block just to estimate what your taxes would be and what your write-offs would be. They actually talk you through the procedure step by step and even show you the maximum write-offs for each category! You do not have to have any receipts and you can write off many things to lower your taxable income.

The federal government charges I think it's $80 or so to file the 1099 form.
