TB Links to a good rundown on the Steven Universe fandom drama "This is probably why people think Tumblr is the worst, fuck bullies who hide behind their faux morality"

Ok first of all, its a tragedy that

Stand your ground. If fucks are going to take your decent points and twist them to feel morally superior while dismissing your argument, then they clearly didn't see what effects their actions are causing.

If you think this person was in the wrong for drawing the art the way they did, say so, don't hide it under a mountain of "I'm so sorry I disagree, and I hope you don't think I am glad this person wanted to commit suicide".

Turns out that wasn't your argument though, and I agree with you for the most part. One person saying "I got so sad, I wanted to kill myself" and suddenly everyone whose actions they didn't like is at fault.

Sorry, no, that's not how depression works, that's not what drives people to suicide. It's our lack of education in dealing with these situations, our lack of structure and education, not the fault of those who spoke their honest views.

We saw this same situation with the person around who this subreddit was made. It's no surprise this keeps happening, and will keep happening, until we fix it, not by authoritarian measures and demonizing groups of people, using this as an excuse for those "evil SJW's" running around, but by showing people what these situations are like, how to deal with them, and how not to become a part of them.

/r/fatpeoplehat is hilarious.

However, there is something to be said for how quickly a person can get attacked from a thousand angles, receive massive amounts of emotion-driven hatred from people who are sitting on "high horses". It's a problem that needs to be fixed as well.

There is something to be said about the culture developing on tumblr, not because it is some uniquely evil culture or something, but because they believe they are doing the right thing which is far worse than the majority of trolls.

We have seen this case before, many times through history, self-inflating, group-minded, ideologies that show people a common enemy in society, a finely tuned and hard to follow social standard, and an easy way to oust and attack the "outsiders" or those who stand against good.

The bullying here, the criticism that this person had to endure, was due to hatred. It was due to a genuine anger, rage, that these people feel when anything they have been told is bad pops up. They attacked the person who made these things, and they have and will continue to do so.

Worse yet, they do it under cover that many buy into, their ideology spreads, it "infects" the minds of people by showing them how much "better" they make the world, how "great" they are. It gets endorsed, promoted, people who follow it become icons, people you wish to stand up for.

It's a painfully obvious trend, and it's painfully obvious that it needs to be stood against just as people have done so against such trends time and time in the past. Not by playing their game and profusely apologizing for doing the things they hate, giving them power, but by giving them the finger and showing how twisted and fucked they really are as a group, despite the fact that they feel and believe otherwise.
