I teach programming and help people get jobs in the industry. I am here to answer your questions today. AMA

Hi, thanks for taking the time to do this.

I have 3 years of web development experience at a well-known tech company. I’m considered a mid-level web developer. I work mostly on our marketing site but I've been itching to move on.

I am actively interviewing at another company for an intermediate position, but they are ok with me being a bit junior for the role. The front end role uses Vue, which I have no experience with but I could learn the basics on my own. I'm nearing the end stages of the interview process. I haven't received an offer yet, but cautiously optimistic. This would be my second dev job if I take an offer.

My fear is I won't be a quick enough learner. I have enough of the right reasons for me to accept, but I'm afraid I won't be able to keep up. I have a small portfolio of side projects they're aware of, which all use react. In my first job, I got lucky that I joined a one-man team who was on the same skill level as me and was willing to give me a chance. For this new job I would be joining a product team with experienced devs.

I asked the engineering manager when he would consider drawing the line and letting a junior go, just so I could better understand what it takes to do well in that role. He said when the team starts to feel like they're being slowed down. I'm afraid of being that person.

I want to move on for my career development (and kind of bored at my current job) but I'm leaving a lot of comfort and security by taking this risk. How do you advise I manage all this?
