Teacher or Dental Hygienist?

Pediatric dental hygienists make more per hour typically and the job is clinically easier with a heavier focus on patient education. This doesn't mean it is easier though, just different! My office sends hygienists into schools and daycare centers for dental hygiene presentations and to read books. I burned out on general practice and pediatrics reignited my passion. It's not for everyone but if you are an early childhood education major you may be a great fit for this type of hygienist. Kids have no filter in the best kind of way and they make me feel so appreciated unlike a lot of adults. And since a cleaning is a bite-size relationship and interaction, parents are rarely the kind of headache they can be for teachers. Theres this program called the Colgate Mobile Dental Van that I did community service hours for hygiene school and now in retrospect it was a fantastic experience for me to get a glimpse of pediatric hygiene in action. I dont think you have to be licensed to volunteer, might be worth investigating.
