Teacher who doesn't speak Spanish sues after being rejected from job teaching Spanish

Y shouldn't it be?

It's a requirement in their school curriculum, that's what their state has determined the students learn.

Do I think it is stupid? Absolutely, however it is not discriminatory to require a bilingual individual for a job.

Infact on my resume I put "bilingual English/Portuguese" In case anyone needs a Portuguese person.

Likewise my mother, who works at a doctor office is required to know Spanish. The doctor is of Latino descent and majority of his clients are elderly Spanish speakers who frankly don't know English (which I think it's stupid to live in a country you don't know the language of, but that's another issue)

Since my mother regularly interacts with patients, they require her to speak Spanish.

For the same reasons we don't hire illiterate people to teach English, or people with dyscalculia to teach math.

It's a job requirement. She doesn't need to be Latina (that's discrimination) she needs to be bilingual (that's a skill).

The fact is, she was rejected a position due to lack of qualification.
