Teachers, please do not complain about having to watch a performance put on by your students

If they were saying it where students could hear, I totally get your point.

But I get how mindnumbing it would be for them too. Put this as reason #1,237 I'm glad I teach high school instead of elementary.

I teach HS so our concerts are at night and actually pretty good, I hear. I tried to attend one but I'm glad I sat discreetly in the balcony because I slipped out at a break. I couldn't last. It's not because of mistakes so much as because I found it boring. (I like the school plays but they have a story.) Watching a band performance just isn't for everyone.

Granted, I have ADHD so my sense of boredom as torture may be overexaggerated. But any school assembly I have to attend, I generally dread. So I totally get their feelings. Of course, you cover it up and fake it for students. (And dreading watching the concert doesn't mean you don't support student interests and aren't glad they have them!) But if this was a staff room or something, I think the venting is reasonable.
