Teachers of Reddit, what is something a student of yours has said that made you think 'wow, there is no hope left for you'?

My college was awful for this kind of thing - it was a small specialised college that only offered animal care related qualifications (I was studying to qualify as a veterinary nurse) and about 2/3rds of our marks came from multiple choice exams, but there were so many things our lecturers couldn't seem to agree on between themselves, let alone agree with the textbook.

"So the normal temperature range for a dog is 38-39C..."
"Um, the textbook says 37.8-39.2C. And this revision sheet you gave us says 37.9-39.1C. Which should we learn for the exam?"
"Oh, just learn them all and if you get a question about it, pick the one that's closest."

Exam question:
You examine a dog and find its temperature is 37.9C. What does this tell you?
A. The dog is pyrexic.
B. The dog is hypothermic.
C. The dog's temperature is within normal limits.

Then you have to take a guess at whether whoever wrote the exam (generally not your lecturer) thinks that's below or within the normal range.
