Teachers of Reddit, what is something a student of yours has said that made you think 'wow, there is no hope left for you'?

The thing is, CPS (or Social Services in my country) are often completely overworked, underfunded and are generally only able to properly intervene in the face of true abuse. I taught a child with severe anger issues. He would throw things, hurt himself and other students, shout out and generally hold the class hostage with his behaviour. His parents were not great. His dad was very controlling, his parents both made it clear to him that they blamed the other parent for how he was and it was clear a lot of his anger stemmed from their messy divorce. They did things such as showing him at age 6 a graphic video of a man's head exploding and telling him that if he got angry that would happen to him. They did very little to truly help him move past his anger or at least reduce his outbursts. But, he wasn't sexually or physically abused. He showed up to school each day in clean clothes and having been fed. Which means that he was way, way below Social Service's pay grade, despite the fact that he will likely end up in a behavioural school entirely due to his shitty parents.
