My headphones are emitting a fuzzy noise, not unlike when you pour a soft drink and listen to it.

I've had this problem before, and I 'fixed' it by switching the audio driver to amplify a different port, but I'd like to actually fix it this time. I suspect that's the problem, sound drivers amplifying noise that I couldn't hear before - if I mute the headphones via my PC the noise stops.

My headphones are plugged into my motherboard via the back of my PC, interestingly the drivers that are in by default don't recognise my headphones as headphones, just speakers. I don't know if that really matters though.

The drivers I have are the 'Realtek HD Audio' drivers, which I've never quite known what to do with (leave as is, get rid, replace, etc).

  • I disabled the Realtek drivers starting up on boot. That didn't make a difference.

  • I tried disabling the 'Realtek HD Audio something' by removing it from program files. That didn't fix the issue, but I do not know if that actually would've changed anything.

Thanks!
