Tech Support and Troubleshooting - October 21, 2019

Hey all,

I am needing some help. I am working at a school which has an out of order recording studio. Before I got here (years ago!) the old music teacher bought a whole bunch of expensive gear, and left before he could set it up. It's been sitting for years being unused and I want to do something about it.

The thing is, my experience with recording studio set ups only really stretch to a home studio with a simple audio interface/pre-amp.

I was hoping someone here could help me figure out what I need to do to get the gear running.

The computer has a RME MADI HDSPE audio card, and everything I think uses optical cables to connect.
There is the computer in one room, and I want to have the pre-amp (an RME Micstasy) in a seperate room which we can plug in all the microphones etc.
At the moment, there is a single wall port (which I believe is an SC fibre optic? There is a picture in the imgur album) which I think should connect the two rooms?

There are also 2 x DirectOut tech Producer.com's. I believe this is a pre-amp that would convert optic signals?

I am a total noob with this stuff. So far, I have only managed to get the sound running from the computer through to the speakers. I have not been able to get anything recorded yet, and I am unsure if it is a hardware issue (some of the cables may be damaged) or a software thing, or if I have everything connected completely wrong. At the moment, I was just connecting the cables that made sense to me.

Here is an imgur album with some pictures, and a flow chart of what I tried connecting. Again, I don't know what a lot of it means, so please if you can help me, explain like I'm five.

The computer is using PRO TOOLS. I am used to Logic, so I can't at the moment let you know any of the software specs (what routing or I/O there is) but once I get my head around the hardware side, I can look more closely into the software.

Eventually I would love to set up things like being able to talk between the rooms using microphones, but right now, I would be happy with just the computer hearing a microphone.

If there is a better place to post this, please let me know!
