Technically, the pledge of allegiance is unconstitutional

I was in JROTC in the 90s - Marine Corps at that. Our Col. even said something like "If you are in uniform, you have to say the pledge. If you are in this classroom, you have to say the pledge. If you are out of uniform and don't want to say the pledge, you can stand out in the hall during announcements as is your constitutional right." He even stuck up for me when another teacher tried to force me one semester, and I went to my Col. about it instead of the administration.

Had other teachers flip their shit when I wouldn't say it, though. Every semester I'd be down in the office the first day or two and they'd be like "again?" and have to go talk to the teacher. I could never believe I was the only one at the biggest school in the state.
