We got to see this up close and personal with Sandy.
When Sandy struck the NJ shore on October 29-30, 2011 there really were 3 groups of people.
Group 1 - this was a group of conservatives with the means and the motivation to make sure that the gold-flecked marble that was under four feet of fetid water perfectly matched the new drywall installations and inlaid heated marble, such that one was able to still enjoy the antebar reserve cognac selections under the main dining hall without the slightest whiff of a concern as is tradition for the Thankgiving fete at the beach house by the swim club.
Group 2 - Staunchly Christy Country Conservatives who were able to get through those difficult moments and save a few cherished items and rebuild their houses and sell because the insurance companies will no longer provide flood coverage, for their entire neighborhood , Global warming is still bullshit, and they were able to rebuild , but they still want to sell desperately because the thought of the next storm so terrifies them it's best to imagine it can't happen...again.
Group 3 - lost their house, everything in it and their lives and livelihoods were torn asunder, and after a few months living in shelters or makeshift Red Cross hotel accommodations, they moved inland and into a small but comfortable house, that still is in a flood-zone, but they have their go-bag, and all the important stuff is up high because next time, they're just going to pick up, take the important stuff and were on the path to building a small house near their cousins in PA when the FEMA checks finally cleared.
