Ted Cruz releases fantastic video arguing for school choice – “We want choice and we want it NOW!”

Also, here's the reply I typed up to the post you deleted:

First of all this would allow a parent to send their child to ANY school be it charter or not

I know what it is.

but as long as we're on the subject, here's some links to counter yours.

http://www.data-first.org/questions/how-do-charter-schools-compare-to-regular-public-schools-in-student-performance/ On average, nationally, students in 17 percent of charter schools performed significantly better than if they had attended their neighborhood traditional public school.

http://www.takepart.com/article/2013/04/25/charter-schools-are-they-better-public-schools A new study by the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools reports that these innovative schools are “providing excellent learning opportunities for students.” The report’s analysis notes that students who attended charter schools for four years have “stronger achievement growth than traditional public school students and non-CMO charter students in both reading and math.”

OK, let's pause here for a second. Your second link is from the "National Alliance for Public Charter Schools." The profiteers found data in favor of their profiteering. Shocker.

The link from Data First reads:

On average, nationally, students in 17 percent of charter schools performed significantly better than if they had attended their neighborhood traditional public school.

On the flip side, students in 37 percent of charter schools performed significantly worse, and students in the remaining 46 percent of charter schools did not perform significantly better or worse than if they had attended their neighborhood traditional public school.

And elsewhere:

Overall, the majority of charter schools do no better or worse than traditional public schools

Holy shit, kid. You are so ignorant and poorly read on this subject that you linked to an article showing that charter schools are, at best, no better than public schools, without even realizing it. Doing a quick Google search does not make you well read on the subject. In fact, you've revealed how little research you've done, because it's pretty obvious you just quickly Googled "charters do better" or something in the hopes of finding data.

I can continue to post links that support that claim but all this would do is create an equally long sea of text that will be equally un-read as your links.

You can post whatever you want. You don't know what you're talking about on this subject.

I spoke to quickly when making that point as indeed some public schools are better but then some charter schools are better.

Then why have charter schools, given that they are known for push-outs and corruption? (Two issues your Google search didn't address.) If charters do come up with a useful technique, why not incorporate them into a public school?

Cruz is advocating for choice.

Again, as someone who's up-to-date on this subject, I know what Cruz is advocating for. You don't.

If that means that underperforming schools get less funding then so be it.

As noted elsewhere on the thread, schools that "underperform" only do so because of their students' socioeconomic status. (Yes, this is something you'd know if you knew fuck all about education.) The solution to poverty-driven educational failure is not to inflict more poverty on the students.
