GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An 18-year-old was found guilty and sentenced to 45 years in prison in the 2013 fatal shooting of a Guatemalan man in Greenwood.

Solicitor David Stumbo said a jury returned a guilty verdict for Tavirous Dequan Settles on the charges of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Settles was sentenced to 45 years in the SC Department of Corrections.

On May 30, 2013, police responded to the intersection of New Market Street and Milwee Avenue where they found the victim Prudencio Chiquin Sis unresponsive on the side of the road. He had been shot twice in the chest and twice in the back.

Stumbo said by all accounts, the victim was walking home from his fiance's house and did not know the attackers.

A person outside their nearby home witnessed the incident and was able to give descriptions of the suspects.

"These senseless killings have to stop," said Solicitor Stumbo. "We are broken-hearted for Mr. Sis' fiancé and the rest of his family who will never see him on this earth again. We hope that this is yet another message sent by law enforcement and my office that violent crime will not be tolerated in the Greenwood community anymore."

Settles will not be eligible for parole and the sentence must be served day-for-day.

The solicitor's office said he is also awaiting trial in the 2013 death ofJamal Phillipsin Abbeville County.
