Teen shot by police after attempting to rob detective in Brooklyn

I know one of the detectives involved in this, and a bunch more who work at that precinct and have been on scene since this happened. I'm not going to give too much info about myself or how I know them, but I can give some more info about what happened.

There was a perp attempting to sell some stolen property on craigslist and the detective was attempting to meet with him to identify and possibly recover the stolen property and make a collar. One detective from the 88 precinct was walking down the street in the area where the guy who was selling the property was supposed to be. While he was walking he was on the phone with two other 88 detectives who were in a car down the block. I'm not clear on whether or not they had a visual on him or if they were obstructed.

Out of nowhere, 3 perps surrounded the detective and one of them put a gun to his head demanding he give over his phone. The guys in the car heard this over the phone.

After handing over his phone, he took out his gun, identified himself as NYPD and told them all to stop and get on the ground. The armed perp with the gun turned toward him raising his gun and the detective fired one shot striking the perp in the stomach. He hit the ground and started screaming that he had been shot, one of the perps surrendered, and the other fled. The perp who fled is believed to be 20 years of age. I have no other information about him.

The perp who had been shot was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition.

The detective who had the gun put to his head is married and has a young child. He was also taken to the hospital for tinnitus.

There is a lot of misinformation about this in the news, and I felt obligated to clear this up as best I can. I saw a story on NBC tonight and they completely omitted the part about the perps holding a gun to the detectives head. Some online articles are saying an unarmed 16 year old was shot. They only mentioned that the perp was armed at the very end by saying, "A firearm was recovered at the scene". I don't want this to turn into one of those platforms for the antipolice groups to stand on because I know these guys personally, but the way some media outlets are portraying this it seems as though they're trying to shape it into one of those kinds of incidents.

Hope this clears up some of the misinformation that's being spread around.
