Republic of Velhen is home to the Catacombs of Pares.

Republic of Velhen used to be called Meralhen Sultanate, last sultan of the family was named Akforma. Sultan Akforma IV like his father Akforma III was infamous for capturing many wild animals, torturing and performing magical experiments on them. Exactly how many animals he had kept in the underground dungeons is unknown but its estimated around 10,000 by historians.

Velhen was the only bastard of Akforma III. Bastard sons had to be strangled acording to the tradition but instead Velken was spared and given to a peasant family, a display of mercy unexpected from Akforma III. When Velken became 35 years old, Pares the God of Animals and Wild Magic (Depicted as a big, golden horse with stag antlers) made him his champion and gave him the power to communicate with animals and elementals. Pares ordered Velken to bring an end to the atrocities commited by his half-brother Akforma IV and set all the animals free.

After a long and bloody civil war, Meralhen family was overthrown and the animals were set free. The Animal Dungeons were then repurposed into catacombs with the help of golems to burry all the dead people resulted from the civil war.

Black lions, twisted birds and many other creatures that haven't been seen before are rumored to roam the catacombs now, guarding it from anyone who wishes to learn it's secrets.
