Tell me you have ADHD without telling me you have ADHD

See, I have come up with a solution for that same problem: I work in a clothing store since June and it’s basically my job to eavesdrop on conversations and swoop in - as a good sales-man should - to try to get the costumer even more excited in the clothing item they were just commenting on. Generally speaking, people don’t mind retail workers listening in on idle chit-chat and then working theirselves into the conversation. As long as it’s not a private conversation (I stop listening to those immediately) or something that’s really none of my business (aka: any conversation that’s not about the current fashion trends, the weather, the clothing in my store, etc.) Even better: people who are shopping on their own and actually don’t mind a bit of company. Obviously, you have to look for the social cues because plenty of folks aren’t interested in any of that, but just as many actually are in for some socializing. I have a blast joking around with costumers, giving them colour advice or style advice, helping them pick outfits, give them honest advice and even have serious conversations with them. Sometimes we’ll have woman coming in for their partners who are unable to come to the store theirselves because of health related issues. It can be very relieving for them to tell their stories of caring for their chronically ill partners, sitting down with a cup of coffee and just getting a bit of attention for theirselves. Retail workers are sometimes a bit of a friend or a therapist you can vent to. I have free game to talktalktalktalktalk with anyone and everyone who’s feet are on the floor I’m working at. It’s great!
