Temporary US Insurance?

You said you moved abroad and have been traveling. If you are currently unemployed with no income/under the threshold (not sure what it is check online), you would likely apply for Medicaid.

I ran my own company for 12 years. I had Blue Cross Blue Shield for myself and all of my employees. The costs were ridiculous.

I was personally paying roughly $200 a month after my company put up an additional $250 a month towards the plan. So basically, My Silver Level ObamaCare BCBS PPO was a $450/mo plan. This with a $2000 yearly deductible, and only reduced priced medications.

When my company went under, I had zero income. I then got sick, and had to go to the hospital for 2 nights.

They had a "hospital rep" come down to meet with me about payment, and they actually helped me sign up for Medicaid while I was checked in as a patient.

My hospital bill? Zero. It would have maxed out my $2000 deductible as the the Hospital did send me a bill afterwards: It was for $4300 - discounted down to $4.00 for the four medications they gave me while there, likely Tylenol.

I still have Medicaid. If I see my own doctor/out of network, they only reimburse about 1/3. But I can see in network doctors for a $10 copay.

Hospital stays are free.

And prescriptions: Doesn't matter what it is... At Rite Aid/Walgreen's on my plan, it's $1.00 per month per prescription. I'm only taking 1 medication. But that alone is amazing.

The best part: My Medicaid Plan is $0.00 per month.

So if you fall under the minimum having been overseas. And will only be home for a bit, you may qualify.

It virtually costs nothing. Covers any major health issues. And pretty much the full cost of seeing doctors and specialists if you go in network.

It's amazing that when I was making Six Figures, I was paying $5000/year for my policy (my portion plus company portion which I happened to own). To add salt to the wound, it had a $2000 deductible. And scripts were cheap but not $1.00.

Now that I make $0. My plan is $0. Hospital Stays, fully covered. Prescriptions, $1. Doctor Visits: $10.

It's amazing how cheap it is to be poor and how expensive it is to be rich.
