terminal M.A vs PhD in humanities?

I wouldn't pay for a terminal MA if I didn't have to because that's a lot of debt for no guarantee.

If you didn't get into any PhD programs and you think the terminal MA is a necessary stepping stone, then maybe I'd consider it. But, I still would think very carefully about your job prospects, salary, and debts when you get done.

In my opinion, it's barely worth it to get even a PhD with a full tuition waiver and modest stipend unless you can't imagine your life without doing this research. And you also can wrap your head around never doing the research again once you graduate because you're an adjunct teaching 8 classes and are making poverty wages.
