Tesla China website slow due to high demand

No?

Several things wrong with that assumption:

  • This is a car, not a smartphone. Maybe there's some billionaire's kid that you were expecting to just mash all of the buttons until it was ordered, but I think it's reasonable for any normal person to spend at least 3 minutes clicking through the configurator for a $50k car before submitting it. That doesn't mean there aren't a lot of people preparing to hit purchase.
  • Tesla hasn't exactly been perfect when it comes to updating their website. It's entirely possible that 1 or 2 minutes of that 3 minute period were spent madly refreshing the page waiting on Tesla to actually make it go live before the billionaire's kid could mash all the buttons.
  • The payment integration sites in China might take multiple minutes to authenticate with and submit a payment to Tesla, slowing down the order process.

At this point, all we have to go on is Tesla's word. If they say the site is being DDoSed by excited buyers, then that's the best info we have right now.
