No. Do not get in a head on collision in a smart car. Do not trust a "five star safety rating". These are not meant for highway. In crashes with trucks, the truck's engine is riiiiight at face height for maximum killing ability and most of the safety measures come down to seatbelts and great airbags since there is zero room for crumple. A girl in my building hit a curb head on going about 10mph (it was snowing out and she was driving through an open parking lot so didn't see it) and she pretty much totalled her car. Sure, there was damage to the wheel and suspension - but what totalled it was that all of the airbags had to be replaced and the frame of the car actually ended up bent.
