Tesla’s competitors are realizing that making good electric cars is not so easy

It's insanely stupid article.

NIO was supported by TSLA critics as a rival that has the potential to beat the American electric car maker at its own game

Literally no one expected it to beat Tesla outside of its domestic market.

Over the past few months, NIO was hit by a perfect storm including a reduction of government subsidies, trade war uncertainties, and what appears to be decreasing demand in its home country

Bold points are in strong correlation, it weird that author considers them as separate points. Government significantly reducing subsidies doesn't mean that NIO all of sudden don't know how to make a good electric car.

One could argue that NIO is encountering difficulties since it is still a young company.

No, literally two sentences ago, author himself pointed out that reduction of government subsidies was the mayor difficulty, NIOs age has nothing to do with it.

The Audi e-tron is a well-reviewed premium electric vehicle with a price that is comparable to the Model X, but it features over 100 miles less range from a battery that is nearly as big as the pack in Tesla’s SUV

It has less range because: (1) it has smaller battery, (2) it is shaped like an SUV (more so than Model X), which increases drag, (3) it is playing safe and keeping it's battery level from getting too low to preserve battery. It's surprising that 'EV journalist' still hasn't released that.

Audi’s recall of half of all e-trons sold since the vehicle was launched due to a fire risk further highlights the difficulty of the EV market.

This is first and the only semi-valid point. Recalling is certainly a good argument in favor of author's thesis. But seeing how Tesla is so reluctant to issue recalls regarding any of their issues and how recalls are common in auto industry today, I don't think the act of recalling these e-trons voluntarily is anything special.

Even Jaguar with the award-winning I-PACE was no exception, [...] owners are reporting issues such as less-than-expected range.

Author provides no source to that claim. Sure, a portion of EV owner's in general are complaining about range, that's common. But author says that specifically I-PACE owners have issues with range, yet fails to provide source. Also, phrase 'issues such as' implies that there are more issues, yet author doesn't mention even one.

Similar to the Audi e-tron, the I-PACE was also hit by a recall last June due to issues with its regenerative braking system, which could increase the risk of collisions.

See explanation regarding Audi recall.

The Taycan [...] struggles with range and its price.

It's not struggling with range. It has real world range of over 200mi, which is more than enough for nearly everybody's daily needs. If they wanted 300mi+ range, they would have used 120kWh+ battery, but that's not what their customers want. Also, it has the best cooling solution so far, which is significant hindrance for range.

It's price is right in line with the rest of it's lineup (see Panamera's price), also no struggling going on.

The difficulty of the electric car industry could not be highlighted better than Dyson, [...] spending $1.3 billion

Dyson is actually very poor example, opposite of what author claims. From vacuum cleaners to modern EVs is too big of a leap. Also 1.3 billion to design a from scratch is not a lot.
