Tesla with Lidar array testing in Austin, TX (Spotted with CA Manufacturer Plates)

Lidar is just used to validate what the Cameras see.

Fact is that even human babies must learn to gauge depth and distances, it is a skill that must be learned.

Similarly, Tesla vision is "learning" the same skill.

Let's remind everyone that Lidar is pretty awful in rain and snow and is by no means the sign of a good self-driving system. Actually Lidar is the sign of a self-driving system where cameras have a hard time making sense of what they "see", it is a crutch to make up for bad vision recognition.

Tesla is definitely on the right track with "vision only". The fact that a Tesla can drive with vision only is a sign its software is superior to others.
