Texas bishop: Abortion shouldn’t be the only issue that matters to Catholic voters

Of course it matters if politicians represent the beliefs of the people voting for them or not? Isn't it a clear democratic problem if that's not the case? I am really not talking that much about what people should vote for, that is not my main point. My point is how the so called pro-life party is lacking in helping human life after birth and how the so called pro-choice party is.. well, pro-choice which is a problem for pro-life positions of course. The Democrats are also lacking in other ways, of course. But they are preferable in many areas imo.

This means, since both options are quite frankly lousy, that there isn't a good option for a pro-life person that isn't just pro-birth. People should be able to vote according to their conscience and not majorly betray any of their core beliefs. It seems to me that's not the case in American politics today, and it goes beyond the abortion debate. But that in particular is what I was talking about right now.

My other point is that it is lamentable how pro-life advocacy now is mixed up with other kinds of bad policy. Especially because there isn't a natural connection and I think many politicians fake a pro-life position. What is the connection between pro-life and being (as an example) against gun regulation? There isn't any! Yet Americans are forced to choose between them.
