[TEXT] This is a reminder for anyone experiencing depression or anxiety that it is time to get out of bed. Take a shower, clean your bedroom floor, change your bed sheets, give your mind a chance to restart and start the day

I don't know if this would work for anyone else, but I set a couple of phone alarms for the time I should be getting into action (getting out of bed, writing assignments etc) and set the alarm to play a song I find motivating in rhythm and/message, with the alarm labelled what I should be doing.

For me it's usually hip hop (yes I have some dated cheesy taste in music) like:

Waking up: Ludacris - Do the Right Thing 50 Cent - Get Up

Essays/ anxiety provoking activities I need to complete to improve my life situation: MIA & Santigold - Get it Up Angel Haze - A Tribe Called Red Outkast - Git Up, Git Out Wu-Tang - Bring da Ruckus

It doesn't always result in me doing the thing, but it increases the chances I get myself in a headspace compatible with action and when it doesn't work, I got to listen to some music I like, so win-win in my mind.

Also, for me, ADHD meds. That crushing inertia that leaves a little part of you screaming at the rest of you to JUST DO THE THING to no avail was really fuelling my depression, eventually got diagnosed as an adult and it made a huge difference to my life. [I realise just normal depression alone causes this too, just wanted to add my experience in case it helps any other potentially undiagnosed people struggling out there]
