Thank you for the help cleaning up!

  1. No, might take a while to adjust to temperature and humidity levels though. Varies throughout the year.
  2. Heat, Shovel, Gravel for bad ice, Water, Food.
  3. Block heater is nice, studded tires would be smart if inexperienced driver on ice. If you decide to drive on any frozen lakes, follow all signs & use caution.
  4. Firearm never hurts as long as you know how to safely use it and handle it. Make sure it's large enough caliber or you have good enough aim to take down a bear if needed.
  5. Earthquake preparedness pack for your family wouldn't hurt. You'll figure the rest out
  6. GCI or ACS are your main options for internet in the Anchorage area. Ping times to east coast will be a bit higher. You will have the best luck with servers in Japan, Seattle, Chigaco, California, Texas, or Canada. Most servers in these areas can achieve ping times of 40-100 ms or so, but varies.
  7. Clothes. I often wear tshirts/hoodies/shorts in the winter, but that's me. Always have a spare set of cloths in your vehicle. Dress yourselves appropriately for weather conditions, and remember, the weather can change pretty quickly in AK.
  8. If you know how to use it and handle it properly. Some private businesses or areas do not allow guns on the premises. Concealed Carry permits not required in AK. State/Federal buildings don't allow firearms.
  9. Nope, born and raised in AK. Only drive the Alcan in the winter if you are prepared. Expect to lose tires and have to replace the windshield.
  10. Probably
  11. If driving up here, check canadian/american border regulations. You can also have the vehicle sent on a barge from Bellingham I believe.
  12. Every neighborhood has their own problems. Crime unfortunately is not out of the norm up here and seems to have gotten worse over the last few years with some gang activity starting to get reported. That being said, 95% of people up here are good citizens. If you are buying a home, try to meet the neighbors and get a feel for the neighborhood to make sure its right for you. TBH, if you are looking at buying a home, don't buy a money pit, especially with the things that are happening with the state budget, who knows what is going to happen to the economy. Get something that is easy to turn around and sell if needed.
  13. Yeah, may take a while to acclimate but there are a ton of just about every breed up here.
  14. Alaska doesn't have any state taxes yet... but with current budget crisis it is in the talks.
  15. I believe in researching everything before making a decision. Better to be prepared that not.
  16. It varies, see question 12. Don't look sketchy when approaching people or homes if trying to meet neighbors. Not a lot of poisonous critters up here. And the winters have generally been warmer for south central AK in recent years but weather in AK is weird and changes all the time.
