I keep seeing this response and honestly it’s an extremely naive idea about what addiction is. I’ve been to rehab and professionals don’t just help you get off the physical dependency. You learn about how you have to drastically change your lifestyle and the people around you. I saw people who had to quit their jobs, delete all the phone numbers in their phones, get divorces/break up with gfs, and sometimes even move to a new city. And that’s just fairly normal jobs they can’t go back to because of the access to drugs/alcohol. So I imagine it’s close to impossible to simply quit and not relapse living the same lifestyle he has been living.
Basically, quitting drugs as an addict means giving up big parts of your life that you associate with drugs. For his case, that’s music/touring.
I’m 29 and don’t know a single thing about this guy or his music, but I really respect his decision and hope he stays clean.
