Thanks, I hate shaved huskies

Hi! Please don't shave your dogs fur coat. Contrary to what seems logical for you or I, their coat actually helps them stay cool in the heat by insulating cool air. It also protects them from sun burns.

The bottom layer is short, thick, and does a great job of insulating your dog from the cold and the heat. The upper layer is longer, thinner, and one of its functions is to protect your Bernese Mountain dog against UV light and moisture, as well as insects.

The beautiful black color of the fur does make Bernese Mountain dogs more susceptible to overheating, because it does not reflect the sunlight but absorbs it instead.

The coat itself, however, helps your canine maintain a normal body temperature. Berners shed their thick undercoat in spring and summer. The remaining upper layer is permissive of air circulation by the skin and guards against direct sunlight. Never shave the coat but brush it regularly to promote the shedding of old hairs to lighten the fur.
