Taking superheroes for example, I always liked the John Stewart green lantern the best even though I'm not black. As a kid I saw him on the old justice League cartoon and I thought he was so cool because he was an architect prior to being a lantern, so he could imagine down to every single screw in his constructs which made them significantly more powerful than Hal Jordans, even though he was the original green lantern.

Or even another example, static shock. I watched that as a kid, and I'm not black, but I did grow up in a gang infested area so I could really relate to the fact that he had to deal with the local social pressures of trying to navigate gang culture
