There's a sort of willful blindness on politically charged reddit. I've noticed it most coming from trump supporters and alt right people who are asserting that "the right is taking the universities back" or "the left has totally gone off the deepend and everyone believes this."

It's as blind as thinking that Bernie Sanders, right now, has the support of 70% of the country and would be a guaranteed victory and absolutely everyone loves him unconditionally. Given the opportunity, I would probably support Sanders, but I don't have any illusions about his importance, and I don't believe that literally everyone except for 12 republicans in the senate and donald trump agree with him on absolutely every issue and that he's a a prophet.

I think it's a combination of people never stepping outside of socialmedia/message boards, people not paying attention to that divergent opinons exist no matter how stupid those opinions may seem, and probably something about russian bots.
