Theories on How Illidan Could Come Back

That's more or less what I want, anyways.

Now, here's a list of possible content:

Raids

  • Mandatory Troll raid: Trolls of various tribes attempting to rebuild the Zandalar Tribe to it's former glory, with the hopes of either joining it, or completely replacing it with their own.

Illidan raid: Occurs in a new location, as the second to last raid of the expansion. The final boss is Illidan, but player's aren't trying to kill him. Tyrande and Malfurion are trying to free him, and needs our help to do so. How do we help? Beat the bad magic out of him, as usual.

  • Kel'thuzad raid: Featuring a 'Liberation of Stormwind' theme. The Cult of the Damned is attempting to rebuild the Scourge. The true Scourge. To do this, they need to revive Arthas, and restore him to power as The Lich King. Kel'thuzad has led his forces, including traditional undead, loyal cultists, and further bolstered by Undead Naga, on an assault against Stormwind City.

The Alliance will begin the raid in Stormwind Keep, where King Varian, Prince Anduin, Genn Greymane, and the Royal Guard are holding fast against the Cult of the Damned. Why Varian, Anduin, and Genn? Because it's Stormwind and they're always there.

The Horde, lead by Vol'jin, Baine, Sylvanas, and the Siame-Quashi strike the Undead Naga at the Harbor. Why Vol'jin, Baine, and Sylvanas? Because Vol'jin is the leader of the Horde. Baine is honorableSylvanas just wants to make sure Arthas doesn't get rezzed, and maybe make some more Forsaken in the meantime. Plus, the Siame-Quashi should get more screen time, what with being the Elite Forces of the Darkspear Tribe.

The Alliance needs to get the Cult out of their city, and the Horde can use with as an opportunity to steal information from SI:7, while improving overall relations with the Alliance.

Boss #1, Alliance Side: Cult of the Damned boss, Stormwind Keep.

Boss #2, Alliance Side: Undead boss, SI:7 HQ.

Boss #3, Alliance Side: Undead boss. Trade District.

Boss #4: Alliance Side: Undead Naga boss, Stormwind Harbor. Relieves the Horde forces.

Boss #1, Horde Side: Clear the trash in the Harbor, and kill the Undead Naga commander.

Boss #2, Horde Side: Undead boss, Trade District.

Boss #3, Horde Side: Undead boss, SI:7 HQ.

Boss #4: Horde Side: Cult of the Damned boss, Stormwind Keep. Relieves the Alliance forces.

Alliance forces go to the Dwarven District, while the Horde goes to the Mage Quarter. Players go to the Cathedral District.

Boss #5: Cult of the Damned and Undead Naga duo boss. Cathedral District.

Kel'thuzad is spotted in the city graveyard, hovering reverently before Arthas' grave. He unearths the corpse, and sends a minion to deal with you as he makes his way out of the city.

Boss #6: Cult of the Damned boss. Graveyard.

Boss #7: Kel'thuzad. Valley of Heroes. The fight could consist of him trying to open a portal to somewhere. Maybe Jaina or Khadgar or some other mage shows up to hold the portal open, while we run in and drag Kel'thuzad back out. He could even manage to successfully send Arthas' corpse wherever it was he was trying to send it. Opens up the possibility of another raid at some point where we have to go kill Kel'thuzad (again) because he's reviving Arthas. (And to really kick us for doing what we do, we could later find out that Kel'thuzad was only trying to give Arthas a second chance at life, for some reason, and Arthas was refusing, for some reason.)

Queen Aszhara/N'zoth raid: Because if there's not a raid involving Aszhara and N'zoth in a Naga expansion, people will lose their shit. Illidan could use this as his big redemption moment, where he does what he does and betrays people. Specifically Aszhara.

Legendary _______

Actually, instead of a new Legendary, let's give some old Legendaries some upgrades, bring them back up to a relevant ilvl after lengthy quest chains.

  • In their attempts to restore the Zandalar tribe, the Trolls have gotten the attention of very powerful Elementals. These Elementals may be enough to recharge Sulfuras and Thunderfury, if harnessed correctly.

  • Khadgar could lend Atiesh to players who earn it, stating that it will be infinitely superior to that shoddy replica they've been carrying around.

  • After Illidan is freed, he can lead players on a quest to purify the Twin Blades of Azzinoth of their Fel taint, and infuse them with even more power.

  • Sylvanas could probably find some way to empower Thori'dal, but will refuse unless we help her with certain things.

  • A Titan Artifact could be used to recharge Val'anyr with the Power of Creation, since it would no doubt be useful against an Old God.

  • Tirion Fordring could reluctantly offer a Shard of Frostmourne to empower Shadowmourne, after the player proves that he or she will not abused it.

  • After thwarting a Naga invasion of Pandaria, the Celestials offer to reinforce your Legendary Cloak if you're willing to go through the trials again.

  • The Legendary Ring could probably find something else to be infused with.
