There always will be a decent sized chunk of people who feel more in tune with past decades who would give up all the modern conveniences in a heartbeat if a way to permanently go back there were invented.

I think this is a big part of it. A lot of us look back to a time where things seemed “simpler” techwise, but part of the good feeling we have about that time may be influenced by the fact that we were younger, more hopeful, hotter/fitter or whatever.

It reminds me of my good friend who just told me he missed his college ex & felt like she was “the one.” He’s completely romanticized that relationship now that he’s settled in adult life and responsibilities. Having lived with him at the time, I had to give him examples of how toxic the relationship was (he had to get a restraining order.). Wha he’s really missing is the fun & excitement he had in college compared to what he’s doing now. We try to focus on what changes he can make now the get some of those elements back to his life vs. romanticizing the past.
