Amazon can make you quite a bit of money and I think a great idea. I would recommend using a program like jungle scout. They show you the Sales volume of individual items. It’s a great tool to use while sourcing.

As for all the negativity you see... it is amazons ball game 100%... and they will always win. They will make decisions that don’t make any sense, but it’s just how it is. You have to deal with it. The upside far outweighs the bad as long as you are selling legitimate good quality products you will be ok.
